softly downy perennial forming a tuft, open semi-cushion or mat. Leaves rosetted, ovate, blunt, 1-1.5cm by 8-13mm, dark, slightly greyish-green, fleshy textured and crenate, tapering to a petiole up to 1cm long. Peduncles from the leaf axils to 8cm long, bearing one to five subsessile, creamy-white or cool pink fragrant blooms 1.6-2cm across with a tube 1.2cm long, summer. Argentina and Chile; southern volcano and Lake district in very recessed or sheltered rock crevices or ledges, often shaded, at least for much of the day at 1500-2000m. This species has been wrongly known as O. suaveolens which is an illegitimate name.
