Stems simple or branched above, 15-35cm high, pilose and glandular pubescent. Leaves linear-lanceolate, usually entire, 1.5-4cm long, dark green, glandular.
Inflorescence bracts ovate to narrowly so, three-lobed, 1-1.5cm long, dark green. Flowers rich yellow, to 1.2cm long, glandular-pubescent, late summer to autumn. British Columbia to California east to the Rocky Mountains, in sagebrush scrub, juniper woodland and Pinus ponderosa forest.
