Botanical Description

Liriope japonica). Colony-forming, spreading by slender rhizomes, the roots tuberous. Leaves 20-30cm or more long by 2-4mm wide, deep green, arching. Racemes about half as long as leaves, few to ten flowered. Flowers bell-shape, to 5mm across, white to pale purple, late summer. Fruits pea-sized, blue. China, Korea, Japan, in woods and shady places. Can be invasive in humus-rich soils. O.j. var. umbrosus, see O. ohwii.
