Petunia patagonica). Subshrubby cushion-former, 10-25cm high by up to 1m. across in the wild. Leaves densely borne, in semi-whorls, yellow to bronze-green, linear to narrowly spathulate, sticky-glandular and glossy, rigid, 2-3mm long. Flowers 1-1.5cm across by 2cm long, ochreous-yellow or pale lavender-violet, netted darker on the lobes, spring in the wild. Southern Patagonia as a locally abundant element of the dry windswept cushion steppe flora of the upper Rio Santa Cruz. Said to be difficult to flower in cultivation. [Pl.296].
