Botanical Description

Leaves two to four, 35cm long by 1.7cm wide, glaucous, erect, sometimes twisted. Stem slightly compressed to 37cm tall. Pedicel 4.5cm long. Flowers one to fifteen, horizontal, 4cm in diameter, tube pale green, 2cm long, tepals white, patent or slightly deflexed, imbricate, corona bright yellow, cup-shaped, entire (or almost), 5mm high by 10mm diameter. Anthers three in tube, three in corona, overtopped by style, winter to spring. Calcareous soil, often in woodland, from Italy and Sicily eastwards to Kashmir or beyond.
