Leaves two to four to 45cm long, by 1cm broad, slightly glaucous, channelled at base, keeled, erect. Stem 36cm tall, compressed, striate. Pedicel 25mm long. Flowers usually solitary, exceptionally two to four, ascending, to 7cm in diameter, tube 2.5cm long, tepals white (yellow at base on outside) patent or a little reflexed, often twisted, imbricate, corona shallow, to 2mm long or discoid, green at centre, yellow mid zone and crimson or orange at scarious margin. Anthers three in tube and three in corona, overtopping style, late spring. Wet meadows in mountain areas from Pyrenees to Italy and Greece.
