Botanical Description

Leaves two to four, 45cm long or more by 1.7cm wide, glaucous, erect, keeled. Stem sharply compressed, striate, 28cm Pedicels to 5cm long. Flowers two to eleven or more, ascending, typically 3.5cm in diameter, white, tube white, narrow 1.5mm long, tepals patent, often incurving, usually imbricate, corona cup-shaped, entire or notched, 5mm high by 8mm in diameter. Anthers three in tube, three in corona level with style, autumn to spring. Calcareous soil from sea level to at least 1300m from southern Portugal eastwards to Yugoslavia and Greece, Cyprus, Morocco, Algeria and western Mediterranean islands. Very variable.
