Myrtus nummularia). Loosely to densely mat-forming with reddish wiry stems to 30cm or more in length. Leaves in opposite pairs, not crowded, broadly elliptic to rounded, 3-7mm long, rich almost lustrous green, leathery-textured. Flowers creamy-white, usually four but sometimes five-petalled, to about 8mm across, sometimes more, solitary from the younger leaf axils, summer. Fruit a berry, globose to ellipsoid, 5-10mm long, pink to red. Southern Argentina and Chile, including the Fuegian islands and the Falklands, in the raised parts of bogs often associated with sphagnum moss, Blechnum penna-marina, Empetrum and Pernettya.
