Botanical Description

ex DC.) Greene (syn. Claytonia parvifolia). Tufted perennial with a fleshy rootstock and caudex-like stems bearing rosettes of slender, erect to ascending flowering shoots 15-30cm long. Leaves at the base l-3cm long, obovate to oblanceolate, long-stalked, those on the stems getting progressively smaller to bract-like, often with bulbils in the axils. Flowers in racemes 1.4-2cm across, pink or white with pink or lavender veins, summer. California to Alaska and Montana, in mixed evergreen and conifer forest, in moist, often rocky soil, up to 2500m in California.
