Leaves at the base l-3cm long, obovate to oblanceolate, long-stalked, those on the stems getting progressively smaller to bract-like, often with bulbils in the axils. Flowers in racemes 1.4-2cm across, pink or white with pink or lavender veins, summer. California to Alaska and Montana, in mixed evergreen and conifer forest, in moist, often rocky soil, up to 2500m in California.
