Widely clump to colony-forming perennial spreading by slender rhizomes and stolons. Stems ascending to erect, 20-30cm or more high. Leaves l-3cm long, ovate to almost elliptic, often more or less muscilnaginous. Flowers 2.5-3.5cm long, yellow, the mouth almost closed by two red-brown-dotted swellings, summer to autumn. California to British Columbia and the Rocky Mountains, in wettish places at 2100-3700m, in open conifer woodland and alpine fell-fields.
