Authors: Arn.
Usually a densely branched annual under 10cm tall. Leaves elliptic lanceolate to oblong, l-3cm long, entire. Flowers purple, rarely yellow, 1.3-2cm long, having a darker pattern in the throat bearing a double yellow or white blaze on the lower side, summer. California to Washington State and the Rockies, in dry sandy or gravelly places, often scrub or light conifer woodland at 1500-2800m. A pretty little species worth trying as a filler on the rock garden or as an autumn-sown alpine house subject.
