Stems erect, 30-60cm tall, sparingly branched, white cotton-hairy. Leaves broadly heart-shaped to rounded, strongly wrinkled and deep grey-green above, grey or white hairy beneath. Flowers white or cream, 1-1.5cm long, many in dense globular clusters, early to late summer. Europe (widespread) in a variety of fairly open habitats, often on dryish limey soils. Formerly much grown for its herbal uses, but neither small nor choice enough for the rock garden.
