Agrostemma flos-jovis). Clump-forming, usually 30-45cm tall but more in rich soil. Basal leaves more or less spathulate, 5-10cm long, those on the stem lanceolate, all densely white hairy. Flowers about 2cm across, purple or scarlet, sometimes pink or white, in tight terminal clusters, summer. European Alps and adjacent ranges on dry sunny slopes and screes at 1000-2400m. L.f.-j. 'Nanum' is a dwarf form.
