to 30cm or more across. Leaves 3-7cm long, the margins incurved and bearing a coating of long, White woolly hairs. Flowering stems 9-20cm tall bearing dense rounded or spike-like clusters to 2cm long. Flowers 2mm long, the tepals dark brown with broad, white membranous margins, spring and summer. New Zealand, South Island, in moraines, gravel terraces by rivers, on bare ground or in grassland at 300-1800m. A very distinctive species with its woolly leaves.
