diffusely branched subshrub 10-20cm high. Leaflets up to 8mm long, linear to linear-lanceolate, acute, varying from silky pilose overall to adpressed hairy at first on the lower surface only. Inflorescences short and compact with small, violet-blue flowers. Colombia to Peru and Bolivia in paramo moorland and grassland often near permanent snows at 3900-4600m. This species is related to L. carazensis which has much larger flowers and a more impressive spike.
