Tufted and mat-forming perennial from a woody base up to 20cm across. Leaflets seven to ten, 5-20cm long, oblanceolate, silvery silky hairy. Racemes 3-5cm long, dense. Flowers 6-9mm long, the rounded standard with a white or yellowish centre, summer. California, Oregon, Nevada, on dryish stony slopes at 1300-3700m. L.b. var. bryoides is smaller, with truncated, head-like racemes, up to subalpine levels. L.b. var. grandiflorus is a little taller with flowers to 11mm long. [Pl.262].
