Probably half-hardy, mat-forming perennial 10-20cm in diameter, densely silvery hairy throughout. Leaves comprising three or five obovate to oblanceolate 4-12mm long leaflets. Flowers 7-10mm long, bright yellow, in axillary umbels of three to eight, late spring to summer. California and adjacent Mexico, on dry hills, mainly below about 1700m. L.a. var. decorus has a denser silvery covering of stiffish hairs, and var. ornithopus has larger flowers. All are well worth trying in the alpine house.
