Ascending to erect, rhizomatous perennial 15-25cm tall, densely downy with some interspersed tiny glochids and spiny hairs, forming a mat of neat clustered basal rosettes. Leaves l-5cm by 2-6mm, lanceolate to linear-lanceolate in outline, the pinnatifid, close-set rounded basal lobes subdivided into two to three segments. Flowering stems numerous with a few pairs of leaves, producing branching cymes at their tips. Flowers singly or in twos and threes, erect, 2cm across, the widely spreading boat-shaped petals yellow with a green keel. Chile and Argentina, the central cordilleras in mountain steppe.
