ex Benth. Stems usually branched from the base, mainly erect 10-30cm high. Leaves 3-10cm long, pinnate to bipinnate, long hairy. Flowers 2-3cm across, white, bowl-shaped, the petals truncate or slightly notched, late spring to summer. California, in rnoist open places, grassland or pine woodland up to 1300m. L.a. var. versicolor has hairless leaves and occurs at higher altitudes, to 1800m.
