Botanical Description

Robinson subsp. Columbiana, (E). Leaves dark green, linear spathulate to 5cm long in neat, distinct rosettes. Inflorescence many-flowered loose panicles on 10-15cm stems. Flowers l-2cm in diameter with four to nine white veined pink or pink to magenta petals, early to late summer. British Columbia to Oregon on rocky slopes on granite and serpentine at 510-2290m. Lx. subsp. walloivensis is like subsp. columbiana, but with many smaller, white, pink-veined flowers on short, procumbent stems. Idaho on Seven Devil mountains and Oregon, Wallowa mountains on rocky slopes which are very dry in summer at 1675-2670m. L.c. subsp. rupicola, syn. 'Rosea' of gardens, is also like subsp. columbiana, but flowers usually larger on taller stems, but variable. British Columbia to Oregon and Washington on exposed slopes and screes at 850-1675m. L. X edithae (L. columbiana X L.c. subsp. rupicola) (E) is similar to subsp. rupicola, with deep magenta flowers.
