Botanical Description

Leaves many, oblanceolate, 3-8cm long, glaucous green. (Recent introductions often have a pinkish tinge). Flowers sessile, 3-5cm in diameter. Petals five to nine, white to soft pink, longer than wide, often crenate at the tips, spring to mid-summer. California and Arizona in damp meadows, probably never parched, at 1370-2450m. Best kept in a damp plunge giving no direct water to the pot and summer rest. [Pl.245].
