Botanical Description

with rather open rosettes. Leaves 3-15cm long, narrowly obovate, long-petioled, deeply pinnately incised into irregular pointed lobes, sparingly downy to almost glabrous. Flowering stems simple or with a few branches. Flowerheads hemispherical, the involucres 1 by 1.3cm containing about forty raspberry to ruby-red florets having rays to 6mm long, spring to summer in the wild. Argentina and Chile in southern Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego in coastal sands, grassy moorland, steppe and dry subalpine communities from sea leval to 1000m depending on latitude.
