Botanical Description

to about 15cm high in bloom. Leaves to 4cm long, linear to oblanceolate, silvery-downy. Flowers yellow, early to mid summer. Seed pods about 5mm long, ovoid. Western Canada to south Nebraska, Utah and Colorado on dry slopes and ridges at alpine levels. L.a. var. laevis and var. condensata are very dwarf forms with the racemes not much longer than the basal leaves; in var. laevis the star-shaped hairs are very closely appressed, creating a smooth surface. Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, in dry foothills.
