Botanical Description

Cilia pungens). Aromatic shrublet 10-40cm in height. Leaves palmately (occasionally pinnately) three to seven lobed, the centre lobes 8-15cm in length and much longer than the others, all prickle-tipped. Flowers narrowly funnel-shaped, 1.5-2.5cm long, white variably flushed pink or purple, in terminal clusters, early to late summer. Washington State to California and Nevada in dry, rocky and stony places at 1500-4000m. Varying in minor ways throughout its range mainly in flower colour and the length ratio of central and lateral leaf lobes. [Pl.241].
