Leaves in tight rosettes, oblong to elliptic-lanceolate, entire, 5-15 by 3-5mm Flowers in sessile clusters of three to six, strong yellow, 2.5-3mm across, almost sessile, or on pedicels to 8mm, summer in the wild. Fruits parchmentcoloured, 1.2 by 1cm, elliptical with prominent ribs. Chile and Argentina in open dry rock or soil slopes and gravelly ridge tops as an element, often dominant, of high alpine steppe communities at 2000-3700m. Remarkably identical in vegetative and flora appearance to Azorella patagonica except for its fewer-flowered umbels and conspicuous large, pale, ribbed fruits.
