itself becomes a large shrub when happily situated, but forma myrtifolia rarely exceeds 1.2m high and wide and is slow-growing. Compact habit with oval leaves up to 5cm long. Flowers about 2cm across, saucer-shaped, shades of pink, early summer. Often seed-raised and very variable. For the larger rock garden, the cultivar 'Elf should be obtained. This is slower growing, eventually to 1m tall and has abundant clear pink buds opening blush.
