Botanical Description

often from long, branched rhizomes, 10-20cm tall, sometimes more or much less in the wild. Leaves narrowly linear, compressed, often channelled at the base. Flowers 3-5mm long, light green, light brown or reddish, in dense heads of three to eight, summer. Southern tips of Chile and Argentina and adjacent islands, e.g. Falkland, Kerguelen, etc. and subantarctic Islands south of New Zealand, in wet peaty places, from sea level to 300m (in New Zealand).
