Botanical Description

Neat perennial basically glabrous, about 10-20cm across and a few centimetres high, from a central taproot, its many sparsely foliate short stems prostrate or ascending. Leaves petiolate, broadly ovate to rhomboid, deeply pinnatisect, fleshy, 1.5-4 by 1-1.5cm, the acute-oblong lobes entire to pseudopetiolate and deeply few linear-toothed. Flowers solitary from leaf axils on the lower stems, on slender pedicels l-2cm long, the bright to greenish-yellow corolla 9-13mm long, downy within with spreading triangular lobes, incurled and reflexed. A disjunct distribution in central Chile and considerably further south in Patagonian Argentina, typically in dry pasture and steppe communities at 100-1000m. The synonym may perhaps be something of an overstatement, but it does suggest that someone regarded this plant as attractive in flower.
