Botanical Description

A robust species to 60cm or more in height, but often less and in poor soils flowering at about 30cm. Leaves 3-5cm wide, lustrous, well spaced out on the stem. Flowers to 7.5cm in diameter, up to seven or more on robust specimens, pale lilac, the falls bearing a white crest surrounded by a yellow zone, late spring. Central Asia, especially in the Samarkand area, in mountainous rocky places. One of the easiest and hardiest juno irises for outside culture, but somewhat large for the rock garden.
