Botanical Description

2 A. To 15cm tall, forming small colonies when happily established. The rhizomes thin and bearing slender stolons. Leaves elongating to 30cm or so after flowering, bright green, 1-2.5cm wide. Flowers 3-4cm in diameter, usually a shade of lilac-blue, but in the wild, variants which are violet, purple, lavender, lilac or white occur, late spring. South-eastern U.S.A. in mountain woods, ravines and bluffs. Thrives best in moist but not wet, peaty soil.
