More or less stemless, generally less than 5cm high, but in the wild occasionally to 20cm Leaves spathulate or oblanceolate, 3-6cm long, ciliate and finely glandular on both surface. Flowerheads solitary, (but var. caulescens may have two) 3.5-5.5cm in diameter, rich yellow, late summer. Turkey, Armenia and Iraq; wettish places in the mountains at 1350-3600m.
