Sprawling evergreen shrublet, eventually 40-60cm tall. Leaves broadly spathulate, the lower ones 3-7cm long, those above smaller, thick-textured, usually deep green. Flowers pure white, fragrant, in corymbs 3-5cm in diameter, late autumn to spring. Western Italy and Sicily on sea cliffs. Not fully hardy but a good plant for winter blossom in the alpine house. Sometimes confused with I. sempervirens, but clearly distinct in its flowering season.
