ex Dyer. Deciduous prostrate subshrub, forming flat mats to 45cm across. Leaves elliptic-oblong, 5-12mm long, pale green, often turning yellow or red in late autumn. Flowers up to 4cm across, often reddish in bud, solitary from all the branch tips. Central Nepal to Yunnan, probably as introductions from Sikkim, at 3000-4000m. A good rock garden species deserving to be planted more often.
