Tufted to small clump-forming, about 30cm high. Leaves mostly basal, oblong to oblanceolate, 4.5-8.5cm long, densely silvery-white woolly. Flowers two to four on white-hairy stems, bright yellow, 4-5cm across, summer. Mountains of Europe (not the Pyrenees), in calcareous stony and grassy places. One of the most decorative species in foliage and flower.
