Botanical Description

Filosella officinarum). Mat-forming, spreading widely by rhizomes and leafy, runner-like stolons. Leaves in rosettes, obovateoblong, sometimes narrowly so, l-6cm long, rarely up to twice this, densely white starry hairy beneath, smooth green above with a scattering of long hairs. Flowerheads solitary, on white, hairy stems usually about 5-10cm in height but sometimes exceeding twice this, lemon-yellow, red-striped in bud, about 2.5cm in diameter, summer to autumn. Most of Europe, in dryish, grassy places. Garden-worthy, but apt to be invasive. A variable plant in the wild.
