Douglas ex Lindl. Tufted, but with well developed basal rhizomes, 30-70cm tah. Leaves broadly oval, to 8cm long, 5-7-lobed, set with cuspidate teeth. Flowers white-petalled, in loose panicles, summer. California, southern Oregon, in redwood and pine forest and mixed evergreen woods, in moist, humus-rich soil. H.m. var. erubescens has pink tinted flowers.
