in the wild creating grass-like swards. Leaves linear, to 6cm long, longitudinally folded and keeled, semi-fleshy, borne in dense tufts, sometimes glaucous. Flowers six-tepalled, solitary, not unlike a starry crocus, to 3cm wide, just above the leaves, white to blue or lavender, often more or less bicoloured, summer. Native to peaty soils from sea level to 1300 m. Can be unreliable, healthy plants often dying for no apparent cause. New collections from Tasmania seem more promising.
