Subshrubby or tufted woody based perennial, up to 30cm in height. Stems ascending to erect, leafy, bearing terminal clusters of blooms and therefore very distinct from the majority of dwarf species. Leaves oblanceolate, 1.5-3.5cm long, entire or crisped. Flowerheads 2-3.5cm across, yellow, late summer to autumn. Cahfornia to Washington State east to Idaho, in rocky areas and on thinly wooded slopes at 1900-2300m.
