Nine species of small evergreen shrubs from the Mediterranean, but mainly southwestern Europe. They are botanically close to Helianthemum and formerly included in it, but in some ways closer to Cistus with which they hybridise (see X Halimiocistus). They are native to woods or scrub or heaths in dry sandy or siliceous soils.

Uses

The following dwarfer species are suitable for the rock garden, best in sun and in neutral or acid soils.

in positions where they are protected from severe frost. Propagation by cuttings after flowering to late summer or seeds under glass in spring.
