Synonyms: Cistus algarvensis, Helianthemum algarvense, Helianthemum ocymoides
Usually erect, compact, up to 1m tall, but often much smaller. Leaves of non-flovwering and flowering shoots differ - the former about 1cm long, obovate, grey-downy, short-stalked, the latter twice as large, green, sessile. Flowers long-stalked in loose panicles, 2cm across, strong yellow, usually with dark brown basal blotches which fuse to form a ring. Spain and Portugal. Hardy. An excellent rock plant.
