Botanical Description

across by 10-15cm high. Leaves greyish-green, l-3cm long, linear to lanceolate, sometimes semi-falcate. Flowers about 1cm across, white, lilac, or pale purple, in cymose panicles of five to thirty. Summer. Central and southern Europe, amongst mountain rocks and grassland at 1000-2850m. G.r. 'Fratensis' has a more compact habit and pink flowers. 'Rosea' has similar flowers but the same habit as the type species. 'Monstrosa' is larger in all its parts and is possibly of hybrid origin; the flowers are white.
