Clump to colony-forming, the erect, usually branched stems about 30cm in height. Leaves linear to lanceolate to ovate, l-3cm long, sometimes obscurely toothed and dotted with dark glands. Flowers rich yellow, 1.5-2cm long. G.a. forma leucantha has white flowers, forma helveola, honey-coloured. Summer to early autumn. Eastern North America, on peaty or gravelly lake shores and in marshes.
