About 150 species of evergreen ferns mainly from the higher moist forests of tropical mountains but also in Australasia. They resemble Folypodium, with scaly to elongated rhizomes, and simple to pinnatifid leaves.
Some of the smaller species make interesting subjects for the alpine house. They require well drained humus-rich soil and partial shade though the mountain species tolerate more sun. The epiphytic species do well on slabs of mossy bark, the mountain species in rock fissures. Propagation by division or spores in spring.
