ex Griseb. (syn. G. gilliesii). Erect to ascending biennial 5-15cm high with numerous unequal branches from the base. Rosette leaves spathulate, 2-4cm long. Stem leaves smaller and oblong. Inflorescence of solitary blossoms or few-flowered cymes from the stem tips, bunching together to form a showy cluster. Flowers 1.2-2cm long with wide-spreading rounded oblanceolate lobes much longer than the very short tube, pale lilac-blue striped darker longitudinally, the tube greenish yellow, summer in the wild. Argentina and Chile, in the northern central to central cordilleras in damp, grassy flushes, springs and stream banks at 2500-3500m.
