Botanical Description

Usually an annual, with simple or few-branched stems which are prostrate or sometimes ascending. Leaves to 8mm long, narrowly obovate to oblong, somewhat fleshy and shortly sheathing at the base. Flowers 1.2-2cm long, the tube white-based and the four pointed lobes steely-blue (albinos occur, sometimes in mixed populations), late summer. Northern hemisphere, mainly in the mountains (except at high altitudes), also mountains the length of South America to sea level in Tierra del Fuego, in moist grassland, bogs and other open wettish habitats. Worthy of a trial as a filler, or for a moist spot in the rock garden.
