Botanical Description

Shortly rhizomatous and forming small clumps of erect stems 25-45cm tall. Leaves 3-4cm long, elliptic, strongly veined. Flowers solitary, to 3.5cm long, broadly funnel-shaped, with broadly ovate erect to ascending blue lobes and a green freckled throat; calyx lobes broad and fused together but split into two spathe-like portions, one with two teeth, the other with three; late summer. Alaska to British Columbia at alpine levels in grassland. A handsome species worthy of a trial on the rock garden.
