Botanical Description

Low and tufted, eventually forming small loose cushions. Leaves crowded, overlapping at their bases, more or less glaucous, l-3cm long, narrowly to broadly ovate. Flowers sessile at the shoot tips, bell-shaped, to 3cm long, with spreading lobes and large lobe-like folds; tube greenish-white streaked purple, lobes blue, autumn. Central Nepal to south-western Tibet, on open slopes at 3300-4300m. A choice and desirable species inclined to be short-lived without care. [Pl.194]
