Botanical Description

A famous cultivar derived from crossing together G. farreri and sino-ornata. It nicely fuses the characters of both species, with a nod towards sino-ornata, but is more vigorous and has a neater habit than either. The flowers are deep blue. An R.H.S. Award of Merit was bestowed in 1931 and there are still several commercial sources. The selection from it known as 'Wellsii', has paler flowers.
