Botanical Description

to 10cm high and as wide with zig-zag stems. Leaves broadly ovate, dark green, 2-3cm long and 1.5-2cm wide with margins curved downwards. Flowers 5mm long, bell-shaped, white or pink-tinged, conspicuous, borne singly from the upper leaf axils. Fruits scarlet, globose, 5-6mm diameter. North-western North America in open woodland and subalpine moorland from British Columbia south to northern California and eastwards to Idaho.
