Botanical Description

Widely mat-forming, usually under 5cm in height. Leaves broadly ovate, 2cm long, concave, the margins facing upwards, not glossy like that of the closely related G. ovatifolia. Flowers white, widely bell-shaped, 3mm in diameter followed by 6mm diameter scarlet fruits. Western North America, in high alpine meadows at 2500m or above. Can be damaged in cultivation by a severe winter if protective snow cover is lacking.
